The Goldsmith CAD CAM Cross-Pin Fixture was developed by John Stewart for use in his own jewelry shop. Frustrated by the shortcomings of the available fixtures for 3-sided machining, John prototyped the first version and has had it in daily use ever since. The new fixture is especially efficient at three-sided machining since it does away with the need to change tool bits to prepare the central plug.

John has also realized the fixture's potential to machine other types of projects. Machining a basket head becomes as simple as performing a simple flip, then a rotary or indexed tool path. This allows easy alignment and machining of parts that formerly would have needed to be sent to rapid prototyping. The Cross-Pin Fixture has the added ability to machine a model from all six sides without having to leave tabs or attachment points to hold the wax in place.
